Meet the Speaker  Councillor Mandla Ngcobo was born in Gqumeni, Makhuzeni, Bulwer in 1959. He attended primary school at Gala Primary School after which he proceeded to Pholela High School where he obtained matric in 1979. Cllr. Mandla Ngcobo trained as a high school teacher at the University of Zululand where he passed a Secondary Teacher’s Diploma in 1981. In 1987 he completed the Bachelor of Art degree at the same University. Between 1982 and 1988 he worked as a teacher at the following high schools, Mahlahla 1982, Ntabende 1983-1986 and Indala 1987-1988. He served as a principal of Sonqobasimunye Secondary School between 1989 and 1991. He also served as a principal of Ekupholeni High School between 1992 and 2000. In 1998 he served as councillor with Indlovu Regional Council. After the local government election in December 200, he served as Deputy Mayor of Sisonke District Municipality and chair of various Portfolio Committee including Water and Sanitation, Planning and Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee. Councillor Ngcobo also successfully enrolled for Local Government Development Programme with Business Study Unit of the Durban University of Technology. He also did a short course on Disaster Management with the Geography Department of the University of Cape Town. Councillor Ngcobo has also served Deputy Secretary and Deputy Chair of ANC in Harry Gwala Region. Councillor Mandla Ngcobo is married to Sibongile Winnifrieda Ngcobo (Nee’ Ngcamu) and they are blessed with two children.
