Meet the Mayor

Cllr. Mluleki Ezekiel Ndobe was born in 1975 in Koks’hill location at UMzimkhulu. He did his primary education in Zwelibanzi JSS, his senior secondary education in Ibisi SSS where he matriculated in 1995. In 1996 he temporarily worked as a substitute teacher in Ibisi SSS, temporarily worked for Statistics South Africa and other private companies in Johannesburg.

 

In 1997 he was admitted to UMzimkhulu College of Education to do a diploma in education. In the same year Cllr Ndobe was also admitted in the University of Transkei that is now known as Walter Sisulu University to do law but due to lack of affordability of his parents he could not go to Unitra and then he was compelled to go to the College.

 

Cllr Ndobe completed his diploma in education in 1999. In 2000 he did a computer literacy course in UMzimkhulu College. In 2001 he worked as an administrator in the UMzimkhulu branch office of SADTU. In the middle of 2001 he was appointed as a regional census manager for Statistics South Africa in the Sisonke district.

 

Cllr Ndobe was employed as a teacher in April 2002 in Rietvlei JSS where he demonstrated a lot of creativity and passion for education. In 2003 he registered for further diploma in education management (FDE management) with the University of Transkei that was later changed to Walter Sisulu University (WSU) that he completed in 2004. He continued to do a BED honors in education but due to the change of career he could not complete it.  

 

In 2006 he was elected as a PR councilor representing the ANC in UMzimkhulu municipality where he served as an executive committee member heading Corporate Services. While he was still a teacher he registered human resources management with Business Management College in Johannesburg (BMT College).

 

In 2007 he was employed as a Corporate Services Manager in the same municipality and he had to resign as a councilor. As a Corporate Services Manager he has acquired a lot of skills and experience on management, conflict resolution, communications, policy formulation, diversity management, interpersonal relations, performance management and evaluation, IDP formulation and budgeting etc.

 

While working as the Corporate Services Manager he has done the following courses: Certificate program in municipal development for municipal finance CPMD-MF with Wits Business School (NQF 6), Post graduate diploma in labor law with Global business solutions in partnership with Davinci institute (NQF 6),  certificate in project management (NQF 5), IDP certificate (NQF 5) etc

 

Cllr Ndobe joined the ANC at a very young age. He was born into the struggle and grew up in the struggle. There is no other organization that he knows except the ANC, its leagues and allies. He was inspired by the activities of the UDF in the late 80’s as well as student actions in the early 90’s. He officially joined the ANCYL in 1990 at the age of 15 and the ANC in 1993 at the age of 18 though he was already participating in a number of campaigns but due to age he could not officially join the ANC in 1990 at the time of the unbanning. He participated in many campaigns against oppression in the early 90’s including the youth and students protests during and after the release of former President Nelson Mandela.

 

Cllr Ndobe has been a member and a leader of COSAS, a member and a leader of SASCO in the branch and the former Transkei region, while at tertiary has been the President of the  SRC for two terms and a Deputy President of the  Eastern Cape Colleges Union of SRCs (ECCU), was an active member of SADTU, was once a member of COSATU, currently a member of the SACP, has been a branch chairperson of the ANCYL for many terms, has been a regional secretary of the ANCYL in Alfred Ndzo region in the Eastern Cape and therefore an ex-officio member of the  PEC of the ANCYL, has been an acting regional chairperson of the ANCYL in Alfred Ndzo region, has been a convener of the regional task team in Sisonke that led to the launch of the first regional structure of the ANCYL after many years of failed attempts, has been an REC member of the ANC and now the regional chairperson of the ANC and ex-officio to the PEC of the ANC.

 

Cllr Ndobe is a humble but firm leader, hardworking and always strives for excellence; He is very bias towards the poorest of the poor, passionate about youth and women development.

 

Cllr Ndobe is married and blessed with six kids.
