The Sisonke District Municipality comprises of these 5 Local Municipalities:
Stepmore / Ntwasahlobo Sanitation Project:- In order to promote health and hygiene awareness in the communities of Stepmore/ Ntwasahlobo situated in the rural areas between Himeville and Bulwer the need for some 531 VIP type toilets was identified and with funding solicited from the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry in amount of R1,4m. the project was initiated, to date 511 units have been provided. Enhlanhleni Sanitation Project:-
In order to promote health and hygiene awareness in the community of Enhlanhleni, comprising 152 households and situated in the rural areas of the municipality, the need to provide these households with access to a rudimentary level of sanitation was identified as a dire need and with funding solicited from the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry, in amount of R0,4m. , the project was initiated and has been successfully concluded. Underberg bulk water reticulation and storage upgrade:-
Existing services infrastructure and in particular bulk water storage and its reticulations which had been constructed under the auspices of the former dispensation, to serve the villages of Underberg and Himeville, proved inadequate to meet the needs of a developmental system of local government and consequently a need to up-grade the system was prioritized. Funding in amount of R3,8m was acquired from the Consolidated Municipal Infrastructure Programme and the project was initiated and concluded during the current financial year.
Umzimkhulu Local Municipality is located in the historical East Griqualand Region, bounded by the KwaZulu Natal towns and villages, and by the Umzimkhulu River in the South and Umkhomazi River in the North. It is bounded by towns of Ixopo in the East, Underberg in the North, Matatiele in the West and Kokstad and Harding in the South.
